Berehaven Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world and has a wealth of history behind it. The town and port were originally engaged in the export of copper from the nearby Allihies mines and was later the sea base for the English Atlantic Fleet from the early 1800s until it was handed back by the British in 1939.

There are plenty of things to do and see in the areas around Castletownbere. Whether organising trips on a RIB around the island or kayaking with seals, we can help you have a fabulous break. The Ring and neighbouring areas of the south-west provide excellent cycling adventures from the pro to the amateur, we can help plan your perfect challenge.

For hill walkers, the unforgiving and bleak Hungry Hill will set you a challenge not to be forgotten or for a more sedentary excursion why not visit nearby Glengarriff with its unusual Mediterranean climate, Bamboo Park and boat trips to Garnish Island – commonly revered as a botanist’s paradise!

It is hard to come to Ireland, especially West Cork, and not be amazed by the wonderful Golf Courses on offer. Berehaven Golf Course is just up the road where you can enjoy 9 holes overlooking breathtaking views of Bere Island and Berehaven Harbour. Or try your luck at nearby Glengarriff’s beautiful 18-hole course. Wherever you choose to tee off, you will not be left disappointed or unchallenged.

Note: There is free wifi in the reception/foyer area. While currently upgrading the service to the houses, we, do not at this point offer wifi in the houses, or claim to. Mobile phone coverage is fine – but the quality varies even as you walk around the Lodge.
