Lincoln Castle isn't normally a doggy friendly place. However, they have realised that us doggy pawrents still want to visit. So now they offer dates in the calendar, normally 1-2 a month, where dogs and their families can have a stroll around the grounds.
Firstly, I'd definitely recommend a trek along the medieval Wall. It's a ticketed system and they have recently updated the accessibility to reach the wall top with stairs or a lift. That being said, there are still steps along the wall, so not suitable for all.
When you take a stroll around the wall, you get a 360 view of the city. And some stunning views of the cathedral. There are information points along the way, if you're not bothered about the audio guide.
In the castle grounds, there is a takeaway cafe, some lovely grassed areas and small hills and it's just very pleasant indeed.
On the doggy friendly days you are even allowed into the castle and can walk around the Victoria prison, smell the scents of old and the humans can even see a copy of the Magna Carla (doggies can't go into this one room). There are also some small archaeological artefacts and skeletons on display from various finds. The prison does have quite a few steps and locating a lift isn’t always the easiest, so just be aware of that.
It's a lovely few hours out, especially when the weather is lovely.
You do have to make sure you check the website before turning up, to make sure it's a doggy friendly day though!!
