National Trust - Souter Lighthouse and The Leas

Image

Situated on the coastline midway between the Tyne and the Wear Souter lighthouse opened in 1871 and is an iconic beacon. To the north The Leas offers a half mile stretch of magnesian limestone cliffs, wave-cut foreshore and coastal grassland. The cliffs and rock stacks of Marsden Bay are home to a variety of nesting birds. South of the lighthouse is Whitburn Coastal Park and Nature Reserve. Dogs on leads are welcome in the lighthouse grounds.
