“We stayed for one night in a dog-friendly room at The Royal Hotel in Ventnor, and I have to start with the highlight – dinner was incredible! The restaurant is definitely the reason I'd return. The food is expensive, but you can see why. The quality was excellent, everything was beautifully cooked and the service was really impressive. The communal areas of the hotel are also beautifully maintained, and there's a lovely setting for afternoon tea. Unfortunately, the room didn't live up to the same standard. It felt extremely dated and lacked some of the finer details I'd expect from a hotel at this level. The toiletries weren't especially nice, the tea and coffee selection was basic and, although the dogs received a welcome gift, I have to be honest and say it felt cheap. The soundproofing wasn't great either, which is understandable given that it's an older building, but it's worth knowing if you're travelling with a dog. You could hear quite a lot of noise from elsewhere in the hotel, so I personally wouldn't recommend staying here with a reactive dog. Breakfast was also a little underwhelming after such an amazing dinner. It was freshly cooked and perfectly fine, but we had high expectations after dinner and it just didn't live up to that unfortunately. One nice thing about staying over is the location. You're only a five-minute walk from a beautiful park, which is ideal for a morning or evening dog walk. Personally, I wouldn't stay again, but I would go back to the restaurant in a heartbeat. The dinner really was that good, and I'd absolutely recommend visiting for a meal or afternoon tea. I've had lunch there a few times too since and I've been impressed every time.”
