Burrow Mump

Image

Like its better known cousin, Glastonbury Tor, Burrow Mump is a prominent hill in the heart of the Somerset countryside, with the ruins of a church at its summit. The church was built on top of an earlier medieval church and now serves as a war memorial to those who lost their lives in the Second World War.

The carpark is run by the National Trust and free to use, and the summit is just a short climb away, offering panoramic views across the county. Perfect for picnics in the sunshine during the summer holidays.

There is a trough for dogs to drink from, or a small stream. Dogs should be kept under control around livestock.

Burrow Mump is a lovely walk.

There is a small gravel car park at the bottom of the mump - you can park for free here and then climb the hill. You can also follow a footpath through some of the surrounding fields if you fancy a longer walk.

It's only a short climb - beware of sheep, and keep your dog on lead.

If you really fancy a challenge, on a nice day you can climb Burrow Mump, spy Glastonbury Tor and then drive over to Glastonbury to climb that and see if you can spot Burrow Mump!
