Malham Cove
This is one scenic walk you don't want to miss! You can park cheaply in the visitors centre or for free on the road alongside it. Once you've secured your walking boots it's a gentle amble along a river towards the base of the cove where you'll be greeted with an epic 80m cliff face. You'll want to stop for some photos here before heading up the steps to the top. It's can feel like quite a steep walk but will be easy enough for you and your four legged friend. There are about 400 steps but don't let that put you off as it will take you around 10-20 minutes to reach the top depending on your fitness so easy for everyone in your family! Don't forget to keep looking back every so often to check out the views. Once you reach the top you won't believe your eyes! You'll see a stunning formation of limestone rocks that have formed an uneven pavement which you can have fun climbing across or walk up a little higher for the more straightforward grassed area. You'll enjoy stopping for a quick snack and a cuppa while you take it all in.The cove, along with nearby Gordale Scar, was featured in an episode of the BBC TV series Seven Natural Wonders as one of the natural wonders of Yorkshire - and believe me, it is! The cove was also featured in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) as one of the places Hermione and Harry travel to.From here you can walk to Gordale Scar - a limestone ravine which has two waterfalls and then from there to Janet's Foss where you can take a dip in the waters or let your dog cool down with a splash around. It's truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth! You are able to do just sections of this walk or you could do the whole thing which will take you back to the car park. The whole walk will take around 2 hours but will be longer if you stop along the way either for food or just a rest. We'd recommend taking plenty of water and a packed lunch for both humans and dogs as there are no stops along the way. The walk is a great one for your dog to be off leash other than a couple of areas where you'll find livestock. At the end of the walk you will find a dog friendly pub that serves the usual pup grub, cream teas and good ale. They don't mind muddy boots or muddy paws and if you're lucky you'll get a seat by the open fire! Towards Christmas they serve mulled wine and hot cider too! This is a walk you'll want to do more than once and in different seasons - it will go down in history as one of the best walks you ever did with your four legged friend!
