York Museum Gardens will be taken over on 20 September 2026 with all things canine, as they celebrate the love of dogs in the biggest dog show York city centre has ever seen, featuring a celebrity judge!

Hosted in partnership with the team from York Dog Park, the event brings together the dog-loving community in one of York’s most popular outdoor venues. Enter the dog show on the day, with prizes for Handsomest Dog to Fanciest Female to Cutest Puppy or Best Trick, there’ll be something fun for everyone to get involved. The Dog Show will be judged on the day by Author and TV personality, Amanda Owen, of Yorkshire Shepherdess fame, and she commented, “I’m so excited to be judging York Dog Show in York Museum Gardens, I always love to come and meet all the dogs and their owners and look forward to seeing them all on the day!”

Featuring a pop-up shopping village, the Museum Gardens will be filled with an array of local vendors selling everything from treats to toys and accessories. Those looking for some advice or expert knowledge on their pets will have the opportunity to visit information stalls as well as listen to talks from veterinary experts.

Dog training workshops and agility demonstrations, such as bale racing, will occur throughout the day along with professional dog photographers, making the most of the beautiful backdrop of the Museum Gardens. The Have-a-Go Dog Park offers a fun space for all, and this unique York event is not just for pups; a selection of delicious food and drink will also be available for the human visitors!

Jocelyn Palmer, Senior Events Manager at York Museums Trust, said, “Dog owners of Yorkshire, this one is for you! We are so excited to be hosting our first ever dog show and bring together pet lovers, experts, businesses, trainers and photographers to celebrate our canine companions. With all the food, stalls and entertainment, it will be a full day affair for the whole family to enjoy and spend a day in the beautiful surroundings of the Museum Gardens with other likeminded people.”
