Markeaton Park

Markeaton Park is a lovely central Derby park to walk your dog(s) and has something for all the family. Situated in beautiful green surroundings it is a nice break away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby City Centre. Walking: There are lots of green open spaces, paths and woodland areas to explore with your dogs. Some perimeters back onto busy roads so take care to keep your dog safe in these areas as well as in the busy middle areas near the play areas, cafe and craft village. There is plenty of wildlife living in the park too such as squirrels, ducks and other birds so please be aware if your dog cant resist a chase! You can find more details and a map here. Food: The Orangery is an on site cafe serving food and drink at the following times: Monday - Friday10am - 3pmSaturday - Sunday9am - 4pmThe food is reasonably priced and has a good variety including vegetarian options. See there menu here. There is outdoor seating available for you to sit with your pooch. On good weather days there is usually a visiting Ice Cream van too. Shopping: There is also a small Craft Village selling mostly local and handmade gifts, and occasionally these businesses hold activity or workshop days. Some of the shops allow you to bring your dog in with you.

Sports facilities: There are many sports facilities including golf, high ropes and tennis courts, but probably the most exciting are the rowing boats. The rowing boats are especially fun as you are allowed to bring your dog on board as a passenger! For families there are also children's play areas.

Accessibility:

There is disabled access to the park and level paths around the park that are suitable for wheelchair users. There is a car park with ramp access. Play areas, the Craft Village and the Orangery Cafe are all accessible by wheelchair. Parking: There is on site parking in two locations from £1.50 for 1hr.
