Ely's Eel Trail
Ely lies in the heart of the Fens and was once an island surrounded by marshland and water that contained many eels. It is thought that the abundance of eels led to the name that the city bears to this day. The Eel Trail celebrates the city’s past and present offering a fascinating blend of a rich heritage and architecture with contemporary artworks depicting Ely’s association with the Eel.

We followed the Ely Eel Trail using the free guide (see website link on listing). A fairly easy flat stroll around the city of Ely taking in all the main sights, with some good detail on the history of each provided in the guide.
