Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve & Roanhead Beach

Image

Sandscale Haws is an outstanding dune habitat supporting a wealth of wildlife and with magnificent views across the Duddon Estuary onto the Lakeland Fells, where dogs are welcome onlead, however it leads directly onto Roahead beach which is a gorgeous, year round dog friendly beach where dogs are able to run and play to their heart's content. The toilets are only open during certain times - check the website as it varies, but the beach is always open.

This is right next to the gorgeous Roanhead beach, check the tide times before travelling but it's beautiful and spacious with gorgeous views of the Lake District fells - what more could you want for a beach walk.

Facilities are limited, so not a place for a more standard beach trip - if you want amusements and food stands, this isn't for you, but if you want a lovely, peaceful walk with your dog in a gorgeous place, this is a good one to visit.

Bring your own picnic and a flask because even when the little kiosk is open it's tiny and it can be very windy on a winter day - but it's lovely.
