The Dragonfly Maze
Mazes, puzzles and Kit Williams. Three things which had intrigued us for many years. The Dragonfly Maze brought these interests together and allowed us to share them with everyone else. THE MAZE - Planting yew hedges we created a traditional maze with about half a mile of pathways. THE PUZZLE - Fourteen clues dotted around the pathways of The Maze. Only when these are found are you able to crack our rebus puzzle and find The Golden Dragonfly hidden in the round house at the centre of The Maze. KIT WILLIAMS - Artist and author, Kit wrote and illustrated "Masquerade" published in 1979. Kit had made and buried a Golden Hare somewhere in the UK. The secret location could be discovered within the story and paintings of the book. We were unsuccessful "Masqueraders". However we loved it so much we asked Kit to help us with our idea so he designed and created the beautiful centre piece for our maze. The central house, the ceramic tiles, the mirrored cabinet and the bronze "Minotoad".

We had great fun completing the dragon fly maze! It's more than just a standard maze, with the creator having set a fun puzzle challenge for you to solve along the way - can you find the golden dragonfly?? This meant even though we found the centre of the maze early on we found ourselves going back to ensure we had completed all the clues for the puzzle. There is no online booking for this attraction, you simply turn up on the day. Bare in mind on busy days you may have to wait due to capacity restrictions, however you can book in advance in person if you wish to come back at a later time on that day - which is what we did after spending some time exploring the lovely town of Burton-on-water. Inside the maze is naturally very narrow with lots of twists and turns, and not knowing who you may bump into such as other maze goers with their dogs... we did take our reactive dog in with us armed with lots of treats and used it as a training exercise but do bare in mind if you feel this is an environment your dog could cope with. A really fun different activity to do with your pup - a walk with a literal twist!
