Founded by William the Lion in 1178, in memory of martyr Thomas Becket, the abbey remained one of the nation’s grandest monasteries for almost 400 years. There is something for everyone at the site; a great timeline showing the history of the abbey, there are dress up outfits, interactive displays, a gift shop and really helpful staff who are friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have.Historic Scotland's usual dog policy applies; visitors' dogs are allowed at Arbroath Abbey, but are not permitted in roofed areas. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended at any time.

This is a lovely abbey with some beautiful things to look at. The indoor museum does not permit dogs, but there is plenty to look at outside whilst you take turns to browse inside.

There are a choice of carparks nearby as on-street parking is time limited.
