The river walk at Edzell is a lovely path that follows along the river North Esk upstream as it squeezes through an impressive gorge. There are a few picturesque bridges along the way and some wooden benches to rest.

“One of our favourite walks in Angus! This was one of our first walks with Morag as a puppy (I even took her here in her carrier before her vaccines as it’s such a beautiful place to explore!). Morag absolutely loves coming back here. The route follows the River North Esk through beautiful woodland, with stunning views and plenty to sniff along the way. It feels peaceful and secluded, while still being easy to get to from Edzell. The iconic blue door makes a lovely photo stop too! Further down the trail there is also the opportunity for your dog to get in some calm water and have a little swim too if that’s what they love doing! There are some sections with steep drops and uneven paths, so I’d recommend keeping dogs on a lead, especially if they like to wander. It’s well worth the visit if you’re looking for a scenic walk with your dog, and we’d definitely come back. I’d happily recommend this to anyone visiting with their dog.”
