Please note: Only assistance dogs are permitted inside the castle buildings, but the grounds are a wonderful place to explore with your dog. It can get very busy during the summer months, so visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon often makes for a more relaxed experience. If you’re continuing on to the Isle of Skye, it’s an ideal place to stop and stretch both your legs and your dog’s before carrying on with your adventure. Eilean Donan Castle is one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, and it’s every bit as impressive in real life as it is in the photos. While pet dogs can’t go inside the castle, they’re more than welcome to explore the beautiful grounds and shoreline with you. It’s a lovely place to stretch your legs, admire the incredible views over the lochs and surrounding mountains, and of course snap a few photos. If you’re driving the route to Skye or exploring the west Highlands, it’s one of those places that’s well worth stopping for, even if it’s just for an hour.
