Dunnottar Castle

The path to the castle is steep, with around 200 steps, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The views are worth every step and are especially breathtaking at sunrise or sunset. If you’re visiting with your dog, bring water on warm days as there is very little shade around the castle grounds. For an even more memorable day out, start in Stonehaven and follow the scenic coastal path to the castle before stopping at one of the town’s dog-friendly cafés on your return. During the summer months, keep an eye out for puffins, guillemots and kittiwakes nesting along the cliffs.
