Dunure Castle

Image

Gorgeous castle standing in ruins on a rocky promontory on the Carrick coast. Dogs are welcome inside. It's overlooking the small harbour of Dunureseveral, meaning great views to enjoy. There's paths to explore including ones that lead to the fairy pools. Beach is made up of mainly shingles and not so much sand. Play park with a small field, usually has an ice cream van on sunny days!

I used to come here when I was little, my family round fish off of the rocks and I would play with the dog climbing on all of the rocks, paddling the water, and looking for sea anemones and fish in the fairy pools. We've been again recently with Bella, she was nervous about the metal grating inside the castle, but otherwise loved it too! Had a great wee paddle, and a run around in the grass up top around the play park, unfortunately no ice cream van that day but I'd guess its because of covid, still great nonetheless!
