Lunderston Bay
Lunderston Bay is the nearest sandy beach to Glasgow, and is popular with families, walkers and picnickers. Not surprisingly it can get pretty busy when the sun is shining, although there is usually plenty of space here to let off steam.
There is a large, free car park, near which is a wide, grassy area with picnic tables and space for games. The grass leads down to the beach which is a good mix of sand, pebbles and rocks. You will find plenty to keep children amused here, from building sandcastles and splashing in the waves, to hunting for sealife in the interesting rockpools. A good ranger service leads a variety of educational and family activities here. The beach lies within the Clyde and Muirshiel Regional Park and there is a choice of good walks in the area. From the beach a small footpath leads to Inverkip to the south or to the Cloch Point lighthouse and beyond to Gourock to the north. There are fine views over the Firth of Clyde towards Dunoon and down towards the Isle of Bute. This is a good place to sit and watch the boats sailing by.
There is quite a lot of wildlife to be found here, including a variety of birds, occasional seals and jellyfish. Most of the jellyfish in the area are harmless, but some have a nasty sting so the advice, if you see one, is to look but not to touch

Location
Lunderston Bay, Cloch Rd, Gourock, Greenock, UK
Lunderston Bay is a favourite for ours for a day out as you can play at the beach, walk to Inverkip Beach, Ardgowan Estate and the Inverkip Marina where you can swing by the Chartroom for some food. There are picnic tables and benches if you want to bring some grub to lunch. It can get quite busy so if it's a nice day get there early. There is normally a fast food and ice-cream van there at the weekends. Also, it's free!
