Not so much of a beach as a an area of salt marsh. Pilling Sands overlooks the River Lune estuary, at the southern end of Morecambe Bay. Beyond the grassy marsh, a vast area of wet sand is exposed at low tide. Visitors should not stray onto these sands and need to be aware that the tides along this part of the coast come in alarmingly quickly In addition the Morecambe Bay area is notorious for the patches of sinking sands which make it so dangerous.

“Plenty of free parking we go often. Word of caution you do need to be careful if the ride is coming in or just out as is an area with sinking sand. It’s more wetlands than beach but still lots of opportunity for off leadfun for your dog. There is also a path you can follow and signage with birdlife. You can go a little further up to Pilling amenity area where there is a picnic area with woodland, wild flowers and a duck pond with very friendly ducks(yes Merlin does go in the water🙈) there’s usually a butty van there with a variety of foods and local Walling ice cream. ”
